East Riding celebrates youth work powering opportunities for children and young people

East Riding celebrates youth work powering opportunities for children and young people: Youth conference 2026

Partners from across the East Riding have joined to celebrate youth work taking place to support children and young people.

The VCFSE Youth Conference involved over 150 people from the voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise sector, youth representatives, East Riding Council and regional and national representatives.

The event recognised and celebrated the work of the VCFSE sectors and the difference they make in children and young people’s lives.

Councillor Victoria Aitken, cabinet member for children, families and education said: “Young people thrive not just because of formal services or statutory provision, but because of the people in their communities who choose to care.  We rightly celebrate those who give their time week after week, and provide opportunities that wouldn’t otherwise exist. Voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise organisations make such a difference to the lives of our children and their families.”

East Riding’s Young Mayor, Noureen, and the Members of Youth Parliament, Darragh, Emily, Mark and Jacob, outlined the ambitions and priorities of young people in the East Riding.

Dave Brown, Community VISION said: “This isn’t just a conference - it’s a movement of young people shaping East Riding for the better.

"From grassroots organisations to larger charities, the dedication, passion, and commitment shown by the voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise sector continues to create safe spaces, opportunities, and vital support for young people to thrive.

"We celebrate the tireless work of those who go above and beyond every day, listening, empowering, and advocating for young voices. The conference highlighted not only the challenges young people face, but also the strength of collaboration and the importance of investing in services that truly make a difference.

"Together, we are building a future where every young person in East Riding feels heard, supported, and inspired, and the VCFSE sector is at the heart of making that happen."

Rosemary Mansfield from the National Youth Agency was the keynote speaker, outlining the National Youth Strategy and how partnerships are the importance of creating a great youth offer and funding opportunities. Shelly Marlow outlined how the SEND voice aligns with the national strategy. The conference involved wide-ranging representatives from the voluntary sector with stalls providing information, guidance and support for young people and parents and carers to access.

Cat Bradshaw, HEY Smile community development manager said: “It’s great to see so many organisations coming together, with one shared ambition – to support children and young people. It’s exciting times for the future with the strengthened partnership that is emerging across the East Riding.”

The event was delivered by East Riding of Yorkshire Council, HEY Smile Foundation and Community VISION.
